This IS a Learning Experience: Who am I?
SO, with these photos alone, are you able to tell my Gender? I believe that’s a given “yes”, but how about my Eye color and Race? Yes to those too? Ok, great; Let’s step it up a level: When you look REALLY CLOSE, can you see my interests? Or my history? No? Not even with a magnifying glass, could you find my IQ score or my sexual orientation? NO?? Unbelievable. It’s almost as if you can’t tell ANYTHING about a person’s true self by looking at them. It’s never right to assume one thing about one person, especially based off of their physical appearance; But we’ve made it so easy “nowadays,” to put people in categories with labels on their foreheads, so OUR brains don’t have to work hard to figure them out. Are we that scared of branching out, and getting to know others?
A well-spoken quote from the marvelous Dr.Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, comes TO mind, and bare with me; It’s lengthy but worth every second:
“When you look at me, you jump to a particular set of conclusions.
It’s human nature to make assumptions based on appearance. It’s an outdated primal instinct born of our need to quickly assess our surroundings.
Of course, in this modern era, those assumptions tend to be very wrong and often quite hurtful.”
I believe it’s time to step out of the Stone Age and make a change. So does anyone want to get started? *hand raise* I will:
